NBR: Non-residents’ direct investment in Romania covered entirely the current account deficit |

In January-February 2011 the balance-of-payments current account posted a deficit of EUR 44 million, as compared to EUR 747 million in January-February 2010, due to the decrease in trade deficit and the increase in current transfers surplus. (See the attached document )
Non-residents’ direct investment in Romania worth EUR 294 million1 (as compared to EUR 140 million in January-February 2010) covered entirely the current account deficit in the first two months of 2011. Out of the total figure, intra-group loans2 amounted to EUR 267 million and equity stakes consolidated with estimated net loss to EUR 27 million.
Medium- and long-term external debt at end-February 2011 stood at EUR 72,862 million (79.4 percent of total external debt), 1.1 percent above the level recorded at end-2010.
Short-term external debt at end-February 2011 totalled EUR 18,932 million (20.6 percent of total external debt), up 1.1 percent from end-2010.
